Ever since I was young, I had in interest in animals. Growing up with dogs was often my only solace. It was some of the best times of my childhood. When I was growing up, as a family we always had German Shephards, and Great Danes, not too mention the few mutts that somehow managed to follow me home.

As I got older, I always wanted a Saint Bernard. Saints were always one of those breeds of dogs I looked at with amazement and wonder. I never knew, and often wondered how god above and man, come to make this wonderful breed of dog. I always told myself, when I'm ready, I was going to get me one of those! And I did. After doing my research, talking to breeders, I got my first Saint from one of the most noteworthy breeders of our time, Elizabeth Surface of "Almshaus Kennels". I then worked with Carol Beck of the Saint Bernard Rescue Foundation for many more years to come. I figured if you were to be a breeder, you should also be involved in rescue, and those are still my beliefs today.
As years went by, I bought Taylor from Darlene Serpa. I loved his big smooth boy and my true love lies in the smooths. A rough is sure pretty, but the smooths are where its at! I was bit by the show bug and it all escalated from there.
I love to see a dog do, what he/she was bred to do. I believe in balance, soundness and most of all temperament. Saint Bernards are working dogs first and foremost, some argue movement is not in our standard, I argue, they have to work and are in the working group for a reason. They have to move!
For me getting a dog ready for the ring from start to finish is like a piece of art. You take it over, you bathe, you clean, you scissor then buff and blow dry. You train to act a certain way and when you win , thats the prize. Its also how you "present" the dog. This is done in the most professional and fine manner. Its like getting a sculpture ready to present and in this case you have only 2 minutes to do so. Make the most of your time! Enjoy your dogs, and most of all have a good time doing something to better this Saintly breed.
